舞台は宋代、皇帝仁宗の時代(1022年-1063年)。将軍葉忠の子、葉昭が戦死した父と兄二人に代わり軍を率いて遼との八年にも及ぶ戦いに勝利し、戻ってきた。皇帝は勝利への褒美として葉昭に「天下兵馬大将軍」の地位を与えるが、実は葉昭は男装した娘だった…。/そこで、皇帝は自分の甥である趙玉瑾を南平君王に任命し葉昭と結婚するよう命じる。玉瑾は甘やかされて育った虚弱体質な遊び人で、突然、町の噂の鬼将軍を嫁にと言われた玉瑾自身やその一族も驚き、なんとか恐ろしい将軍を嫁に迎えることから逃げようとする。だが、皇帝の命であるためどうしても逃れられず、結局、まったく気の乗らない結婚をすることになる。鬼将軍の嫁と虚弱体質な夫、まったく正反対の2人の結婚はうまくいくのか!?
