レイ・ブライアントはダイナミックかつ黒光りのするピアノを身上にしているが、同時にリリカルな演奏にも本領を発揮する。
本作のタイトル曲がそれだ。おなじみの映画主題歌をスロー・テンポでゆったりと弾いていて、ベースの弓弾きが興趣を
盛り上げるといった種類の演奏。こういうブライアントもなかなかオツなものだ。といっても、そういう種類の演奏ばかりだ
とやっぱりつまらないわけで、要はバランスの問題。その点、本作では得意のブルースも演奏しているし、リリカルな演奏も、
さらにコルトレーンの「インプレッションズ」とマイルスの「ソー・ホワット」をモチーフにした組曲<5 >「エレヴェーション組曲」も
披露するといった具合で、ブライアントの魅力を多角的に楽しめる内容になっている。
冒頭のブルース2曲はジョン・ルイスの曲で、これは亡き親友ルイスへのトリビュートだという。ビル・エヴァンスの演奏で
有名な<6 >「ナーディス」もやや意外な選曲だが、ビルとはまた違ったおおらかな仕上がりになっていて楽しい。（市
ピアノの大御所、レイ・ブライアントの2002年録音アルバム。本人も最高傑作と言っているだけある作品で、円熟と熱く
スリリングな演奏を十二分に堪能できる話題作。
モード曲(5)に挑むとはびっくり。表題曲にも意表を突かれた。(1)と(2)では、作者ジョン・ルイスへの哀悼の念を震わす。
などの色々が、「なぜ?」かを証すのに、「どうやって?」は知らせないスキルで調理された感じが凄い。本人が最高傑作
と自負するだけある。
