1956年3月、熊本県水俣市生まれ。1977年2月、週刊少年ジャンプにて「恐るべき子供たち」でデビュー。同年4月、「8時半の決闘」で赤塚賞準入選。同年9月、週刊少年ジャンプにて「すすめ!!パイレーツ」連載開始。ギャグ漫画家として本格的にスタートをきる。以後「ひのまる劇場」「ストップ!! ひばりくん!」「エイジ」「寿五郎ショウ」「なんとかなるでショ!」「BOXERケン」などの作品を発表
