<ストーリー>
中世の枠組みが崩れ始めた室町時代の日本。いまだ人を寄せ付けぬ太古の深い森の中には、人語を解する巨大な山犬や猪などの神獣たちが潜み、聖域を侵す人間たちを襲って、荒ぶる神々として恐れられていた。エミシの末裔のアシタカは、人間への怒りと憎しみによってタタリ神と化した猪神に呪いをかけられ、それを解くために訪れた西の国で、数奇な運命に巻き込まれていく。森を切り開いて、人のための豊かな土地を作り上げようとする、タタラ製鉄集団のエボシ御前は、鉄を打ちながら人間中心の社会を築き上げようとしていた。一方、犬神に育てられた少女サンは、“もののけ姫”と恐れられ、森を守るため神々とともにタタラ集団と戦っていた。双方とも「己が正義」と信じるこの争いに、さらに不老長寿の力があるというシシ神の首を狙う侍たちが絡み、三つ巴の戦いとなる。アシタカとサンは、惨劇の中で出会い、心を通い合わせる。しかし、森を巡る戦いは凄惨を極め、大混乱の中、シシ神の首が奪われてしまう…。
