トルクカムの動作はクラッチセンタースプリングの力とドライブベルトの駆動に反発して、ベルトの回転方向とは逆方向に、ねじられながら広がって行きます。ベルトの摩擦力の大きい方（ねじれ角度の大きい方）が低速域から高速域までの変速動作が遅くなります。逆に高速域から低速域までの変速動作は速くなる特性となります。
スーパートルクカムはねじれ角度の大きさやスリット形状を変える事により、車両のチューニング度合いに応じた変速特性を選べます。
