シカゴを拠点に活動するドラマー兼プロデューサーのマカヤ・マクレイヴンがブルーノートからアルバムをリリース。ビート・サイエンティストとの異名を持ち、サンプリング、リミックスやループの達人として知られている彼は、これまでジャズの世界で独自の道を切り開いてきた。今回のアルバムもその延長線上にあり、ブルーノートの歴史を掘り下げ、アート・ブレイキー、ホレス・シルヴァー、クリフォード・ブラウン、デクスター・ゴードンらが産み落とした名曲に新たな解釈を加えた。プロデュースだけでなく、ミックスもマクレイヴン自らが担当し、オリジナル音源の完全性を維持しつつ、彼らしいヒップホップを基調にしつつもアンビエントな広がりのある作品に仕上げた。今回のアルバムでは多彩なメンバーが起用されており。ヴィブラフォン奏者のジョエル・ロス、トランペット奏者のマーキス・ヒルなどが参加している。 (C)RS
