4年に一度開催される世界で最も過酷な一人乗りヨットレース・「5 OCEANS」(ファイブ オーシャンズ)に、アジア人で初めてクラス1に挑戦した白石康次郎。「5 OCEANS」は、たった一人のスキッパーがレース規定に基づくヨットを操縦し、大会実行委員会が決定した、数箇所の寄港地に寄り、再びスタート地点に戻るという単独世界1周ヨットレース。24時間×8ヶ月が『1試合』のスポーツ史上最も長いレースである。白石康次郎は、幼少期から「世界一周」を夢見て、数々の困難を乗り越えながら1994年、史上最年少で単独無寄航世界一周を達成。そして前回の「5 OCEANS」では「クラス II」ながら4位完走を果たした。そして今回、最高クラスと言われる「クラス I」に、日本人初として参戦。スタート～ゴールまで総距離5万5千キロにおよぶ航海中、寄航できるのはわずか2ヵ所。レース中の半年間、たった一人で操舵するまさに「孤独との戦い」である。船酔い、捻挫、めまぐるしく変わる風向きそして予想不可能の荒れる天候のなか、時に歌い、クラシック音楽を流し、座禅を組みながら自らを力づけ『夢をかなえるためにもがく姿』は、子供から大人まで見る者の心を打ち、『本物』の感動を与えてくれる。
