ジャズの世界では名曲で誰もが演奏する「枯葉」のような曲が一方にあり、メロディーも美しい名曲なのに、あまり演奏されない曲もある。そんな曲の代表が、ウイントン・ケリーの「ケリー・ブルー」。演奏されないのは、枯葉は独自の
解釈ができるのにケリー・ブルーはウイントン・ケリーの印象が強すぎるのだ。ウイントンを超えた演奏がむずかしい。
で、このダン・ニマー。ウイントンを尊敬するというだけあって、楽々と弾いてしまう。ウイントンの鍵盤上で踊るような
、ドライヴ感のある奏法をしっかり受け継いでいる。ビル・エヴァンスが好きで奏法をマネするピアニストは多いが、
ウイントンを引き継ぎたいというピアニストは少ない。聴いていて楽しくなる一枚。曲の選択もウイントンにちなんだ
「枯葉」、マット・デニスの「ノーブルース 」などいいセンスです。ヴィーナス・レコードからの２枚目。あまり有名
ではないが、ＣＤは名前で買ってはいけない。内容で買わなくてはいけない。すぐに試聴すべし。
