あの1969年ウッドストック以来となった伝説の巨大野外フェス“US(アス)フェスティヴァル”。アップル共同設立者スティーヴ・ウォズニアックが“俺たちの時代”の意を込め、私財を投じて企画した史上最大規模のロック・フェスで、82年9月にカリフォルニア州サンバーナディーノにて40度を超す灼熱の太陽の下3日間開催された。出演はポリス、サンタナ、キンクス、トム・ペティ、ジャクソン・ブラウン、トーキング・ヘッズ、カーズ、B-52‘s、ラモーンズ、グレイトフル・デッド、フリートウッド・マック他で、本作は2日目の9月4日(土)に登場したサンタナのステージを収録。クラシック・チューン「ブラック・マジック・ウーマン」「僕のリズムを聞いとくれ」から当時の最新ヒット「ホールド・オン」や77年のヒット「シーズ・ノット・ゼア」など、往年のラテン・ロックと当時のAOR路線が絶妙にミックスされた激レアなセットリストとなっている。サンタナ・バンドの即興性が最も発揮される長尺の名曲「ネシャブールの出来事」では盟友ハービー・ハンコックがゲスト参加。 (C)RS
